"What I don’t like is portraits that are too dramatic in way that the photographer wants to tell the story of their lives by focussing on the eyes and in black and white. Of course they are beautiful pictures then, but the fact that the feelings and the idea of the photographer are so imposed is what keeps me away from it, I can’t connect to it. Maybe because it’s (again) too obvious. I like it when something new happens in a portrait, something fictional. That triggers my imagination." (From my text to Koen about my view on portrait photography).
